How Trauma/ PTSD Are Related to Addiction
Trauma is a common issue that coincides with addiction, and often is what underlies other co-occurring issues such as depression, anxiety, self-defeating relationships, and relapse amongst people struggling with addiction. Neuroscience has validated much of what addiction professionals have suspected for years about how addiction and trauma affect various parts of the brain, and just how complex the interaction of the two can be. With this in mind, it is easy to see how long-term recovery might be difficult if not impossible without healing from trauma.
Traditional talk therapies alone are not enough to help people heal from trauma-related disorders, including PTSD. The Last Resort Recovery specializes in treating trauma and addiction with experiential modalities, action-based therapies, mindfulness practices, body-mind connection therapies, and EMDR.
Since Neuroscience teaches us that we can change our brain with new experiences and new relationships, our Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy is focused on creating the kind of relationships that heal and transform. Learn more about how our Equine program helps men heal from trauma-related disorders including PTSD and addiction on our Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy page.
