Finding Stillness When Your World Feels Crazy

We are living at a crazy, almost unsustainable, pace of life. There are many competing demands for time and attention, even money. It is no wonder stress and anxiety rule our lives. We cannot turn back time but we may be able to discover a way to bring stillness into our lives. Stillness is like an oasis of calm amidst chaos. Find some tips to look for stillness in your world when it feels crazy.

Being out in nature is very good for you. ‘Green time’ is wonderfully effective at helping bring stillness into your life. You don’t need a tropical rainforest, but try to find your own piece of green space with easy access. You may try building an oasis. You may be surprised by what you can create for yourself. Fill a space in your corner with plants, or hang up a nice lamp. It is your green space so make it reflect you. Soon, you’ll find yourself relaxing as you move some nature inside and spend time outside as well.

Inner Stillness

Nothing beats meditation for inner calm. If you want to quiet your mind and find inner stillness, this is the way. Meditation cuts through the chatter of the mind, allowing you access to the still, quiet calm of your deeper consciousness. You will be able to practice meditation at work, on a train, or anywhere you need to recharge and focus. Your inner noise will slow down and you will find more inner peace. When you find inner stillness in your life, you can experience a deep sense of joy and contentment.

Stretch with Yoga

If meditation is for your mind, yoga is for your body. There are many different types of yoga that involve the adoption of certain postures and sustaining and relaxing those poses. It can take awhile to change your mindset. You may be surprised at how good a workout you can get and how well you will feel after doing some basic yoga poses.

Cultivate Gratitude

The hustle and noise of your life may be due to an underlying sense of discontent. A way to improve your sense of contentment and satisfaction is to recognize and celebrate the things you have. Don’t think too hard, just do it as quick as you can. When you are done with your gratitude list, read it out loud to yourself. Celebrating and being grateful for what is wonderful in life is powerful and can fill you with joy, if you let it. The key is to let yourself feel joy and peace sweep over you so you can enjoy stillness.
