Research Shows Amphetamines Can Ruin Sexual Health in Men

Many people use ecstasy or meth on a somewhat regular basis while partying and sometimes to “enhance” sexual performance, but they might be unaware of possible side effects. A new study has shown proof that using ecstasy and meth can have a negative effect on men’s sexual health, and the effect can be long-term.The Journal of Sexual Medicine studied a group of over 1,000 people, and included a control group. Dr. Bang-Ping Jiann, lead author of the study, said the findings suggest that “compared with 211 matched controls, amphetamine users were twice as likely to experience erectile dysfunction.” In addition to this, Jiann reported some users of the group experienced additional symptoms, like reduced erectile rigidity and delayed ejaculation. This isn’t to say that all users will experience negative effects, however. The study surprisingly proved to show some more frequent users reported back with positive changes to their sexual health while using amphetamines. Some claimed to have more intense orgasms, increased sexual desire, and spontaneous erections.Other studies on the subject have ended up with mixed results, too. Some users claimed they had positive sexual health effects, while others had negative. In addition to physical effects, such as decreased libido and problems reaching orgasm, researchers have found users to suffer from psychosocial issues as well. In fact, it’s possible the users’ negative sexual side effects are due to the psychosocial problems they experience. If you’re a man who has experienced sexual health issues relating to amphetamine use, and would like to discuss them with a professional, our trained staff is available for support.
