Tips for Living a Life of More Integrity

When people stop to look at their lives, they might notice lots of things about their own character and how they have conducted themselves with others. People do lie, it is a fact of life. They omit things, don’t own up to their feelings, and are not genuine and honest. Most people consider themselves to be ‘good,’ but after awhile have not really thought about whether or not they are living with integrity.

What is Integrity

This is a concept which requires an attempt to be transparent and honest at all times. A person of integrity is someone who does not hide who they are and does not hide what they think. They do not manipulate through deception and do not pretend. Very few people meet this criteria because they omit truth regularly. They may tell someone they feel fine but do not and other things, including:

  • Agreeing even when they disagree
  • Compliment someone rather than tell them honestly how they feel
  • Allow someone to get in the way and produce conflict or not put up personal boundaries

Being Nice

There is nothing inherently wrong with being nice. It is good to be noble and of good character and making peace with everyone. As time passes, it may not create the best outcomes to never get into conflict with people if you cannot work on good conflict resolution with people. There is deliberate action that can take place to make sure honesty and integrity are part of a person’s inner landscape.

Being Honest

Take time in the present to assess your views and feelings. There are different ways to be honest and respectful while maintaining integrity. Show respect because of who you are and how you behave. The only way to learn how to do this is to practice it. You don’t have to overanalyze your feelings, you can be honest about what you feel and who you are in this moment. Don’t just express negative feelings you hide but also expand on positive ideas and balance them out. There are great things happening all around. To avoid having people come after you and contradicting you about whether or not you are being honest, it helps to be a person of integrity and honesty at all times. Practically speaking, to live a life of integrity, it is about control over yourself expression. It is about being honest first and foremost. Admitting to yourself that you can be honest and forthright with people is a good first step. Don’t hide your thoughts and feelings. People will respect and trust you more if you are honest. Trust is a lot harder to earn back once you have broken it because of living with lack of integrity.
