Why is Austin One of the Most Popular Tourist Destinations in Texas?

Austin is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Texas. Not only is it known as the “Live Music Capital of the World,” it’s also home to a variety of entertainment options. You can take a trip to the state capitol, attend a concert or even enjoy some outdoor recreation. While you’re there, you might want to check out one of the many museums.

The city is also famous for its food and drink. Its culinary exports are a blend of local brews and Tex-Mex items. Some of the best barbecue is in the Texas Hill Country, which is west of Austin. There’s also the Wild Basin Wilderness Preserve, which is perfect for nature lovers. This area is open dawn to dusk and is home to the endangered golden-cheeked warbler.

The city has an impressive amount of art. You can find unique and creative pieces of art throughout the city, whether it be in the form of yard art or an elaborate mural. A particularly interesting piece is the Greetings from Austin mural, which features a series of iconic Austin landmarks.

You’ll be hard pressed to find a city with more live music venues. These establishments host a variety of musicians, from solo artists to sold out theater performances.

One of the best things to do in Austin is take a tour of the state capitol. The building is 311 feet tall, which is fourteen feet higher than the nation’s Capitol in Washington, D.C. If you’re not up for a long walk, you can take a shuttle. On the weekends, the shuttle departs every 30-45 minutes from the south entrance foyer.

Fun Attractions

If you’re looking for a little fun, you’ll want to check out Hatchet Alley. This recreation center offers 12,000 feet of indoor space with a wide range of activities. From axe throwing to football bowling to bocce ball, there’s plenty to do here. For something a little more low-key, check out the Wonder Bar, which features a giant teddy bear and is filled with whimsical props.

Other attractions in Austin include the cathedral of junk and the Texas State Capitol. Both are educational and offer plenty of history. In addition, the Deep Eddy Pool is a must-see. This pool is fed by natural springs and has been chemical free since the 1930s. When you’re done, you can head to the nearby Austin Public Library to enjoy the dozens of reading nooks and demonstration tables.

There’s no shortage of things to do in Austin, but you’ll have to pick and choose. You can always visit the city’s visitor center to get travel information or book a guided tour. However, if you’re planning on spending a lot of time outdoors, you’ll want to pack some sunblock and water.

Finally, don’t miss the South by Southwest conference. This annual event was started as a music festival, and has since grown to become the largest technology conference in the country. Since its founding in 2003, this conference has brought together some of the most innovative and interesting people in the world.
