Military Member & Veteran Addiction Treatment – Texas TRICARE Center

We understand the weight of service that members of the military carry, and we pride ourselves on using evidence-based treatments designed with your needs in mind.

The Challenges Faced By Military Men

According to a 2014 study published in JAMA Psychiatry, nearly 1 in 4 active duty military members showed signs of a mental health condition. Active and veteran servicemen face challenges that put them at a heightened risk for addiction. Chronic pain stemming from injuries in the line of duty puts these men at a higher risk for opioid abuse, alcoholism, and substance abuse as they attempt to cope with the physical ailments left behind from their service.

Military servicemen have committed their lives to the service of our country and sacrificed their own needs for those of our country. As a result, many members of the military have personally experienced traumatic and life-threatening events that they carry home with them. We know not all scars are physical, and it’s sometimes the emotional scars that are left untreated. With the rate of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) being 15 times higher in the military, we believe trauma should be a central focus of veteran addiction treatment.
