Our Men’s Detox Program Treats These Drug Addictions

Prescription

There are various medications prescribed by doctors that can be highly addictive. Once you have been on these medications for an extended period, you often need assistance from a drug detox program to withdraw safely. Some of the most commonly abused prescriptions are:

  • Benzodiazepine (Xanax)
  • Oxycontin
  • Painkiller
  • Percocet
  • Valium
  • Adderall
  • Vicodin

Stimulants

Stimulants are a class of drugs that speed up messages between your brain and body. They often make a person more awake, alert, confident, or energetic. These substances are powerful and cause adverse long-term effects. Examples of stimulant addictions are:

  • Cocaine/Crack
  • Meth
  • Adderall

Opiates

Opioids come in both legal and illegal forms. They produce a morphine-like effect, calming the body and the central nervous system. Opiates are primarily prescribed for pain management and are often abused due to increased tolerance and the effect on the body. Examples of these drugs are:

  • Heroin
  • Fentanyl
  • Vicodin
  • Oxycontin
  • Percocet

Benzos

Benzodiazepines (benzos) are a class of depressants that produce a calming effect on the body. Benzos are used for treating insomnia, anxiety disorders, and panic attacks. These medications also build tolerance in the body and are prone to abuse. Commonly known benzos are:

  • Xanax
  • Valium
  • Klonopin
  • Ativan

Other Drug Addictions

In addition to the more commonly known drug addictions, many other substances may need a drug detox program and monitoring during the withdrawal process. Examples are:

  • Dextromethorphan (Cough Syrup)
  • Kratom
  • Synthetic Marijuana (Spice/K2)
  • Marijuana
  • Polysubstance Abuse

Common Withdrawal Symptoms for Men Suffering From Drug Abuse

At The Last Resort, we take all symptoms of withdrawal seriously. Some detox symptoms are life-threatening, and some are not, but the detox process is almost always uncomfortable. We utilize various meditations to assist you in the detox process and keep you as comfortable as possible. Medical detox is a time for the body to rest and the mind to heal.

Common Drug Detox Symptoms:

  • Anxiety
  • Mood changes
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Feeling depressed
  • Muscle aches
  • Sweating
  • Feeling restless
  • Changes in blood pressure or heart rate
  • Tremors
  • Hallucinations

The detox process differs for each individual; symptoms will vary based on age, health, and use history.

The Dangers of Withdrawal While Detoxing From Drugs

The dangers of withdrawal are different for everyone depending on the type of drugs they are using and the severity of the use. Detoxing from certain drugs can be exceptionally dangerous and even life-threatening without medical supervision.

The most dangerous drug for someone to detox from is a benzodiazepine or benzo. There are a variety of benzos on the market, with Xanax, Valium, and Klonopin being a few. If you abruptly stop one of these medications without medical attention, you are at risk of severe and dangerous withdrawal.

The symptoms and severity will vary for each person but can include nausea/vomiting, trouble sleeping, hallucinations, and seizures. When you enter a drug detox program like The Last Resort, we can help you safely detox from these medications and significantly minimize your withdrawal symptoms.

Another substance with significant withdrawal symptoms during detox is opiates. Heroin, Vicodin, and Fentanyl are all opiate-based drugs that can be difficult to stop on your own. While detoxing from these drugs can be highly uncomfortable, the withdrawal is not life-threatening.

We encourage you to seek a men’s drug detox like The Last Resort to help alleviate the severity of your symptoms and give you a better chance of successfully completing the detox process. There is no reason to endure a challenging detox on your own. Help is available.

Benefits of a Men’s Only Drug Detoxification Program

There are a multitude of benefits of a men’s only drug detoxification program. First, at a men-only program like The Last Resort, we focus our addiction treatment on men-specific issues. In a co-ed setting, you have varying groups that target both genders. Some of these groups are not as beneficial to men.

Here, our detox program and additional levels of care are tailored to meet the needs of men. We focus on the issues men experience in addiction, recovery, work, and family life so these individuals can build a strong foundation for their journey to sobriety.

For men to get the most benefit out of addiction treatment, it is essential to remove potential distractions and provide an environment where men can connect. At The Last Resort’s men’s only detox program, our clients can focus on themselves and their recovery without the distraction of the opposite sex and technology.

Our substance abuse program is designed for men to build meaningful and lasting relationships with other men starting in detox. During our detox program, the men will meet with their buddy. A buddy is a man who has been in our addiction treatment program for a more extended period and can help the new members of the community find their way. Building lasting relationships with other men in recovery is a focal point of substance abuse treatment at The Last Resort and a foundational tool needed to sustain long-term sobriety.

How Long Does Drug Detox Last?

Drug detox is different for each man that enters our program. Medically supervised detox will last anywhere from 5-7 days for most. The withdrawal process and the length of time it takes to detox depends on age, overall health, and use severity.

While in our drug detox center for men, you will be seen by our medical team, who will monitor your withdrawal. Additionally, our psychiatrist will monitor any mental health concerns or co-occurring disorders you may have. This enables us to ensure your safety and allows you to detox as comfortably as possible.

Once detox is complete, we urge our clients to enter our inpatient rehab center. Drug addiction treatment is often needed to overcome substance use disorders. With our personalized treatment plans and the combination of individual and group therapy, including our intensive family therapy program, men are able to prevent relapse and recover from their mental health issues and substance abuse. Ongoing care in an outpatient program can be discussed with you and your treatment team once your residential program is complete.
