Chris Herren’s Story of Addiction

Yesterday afternoon The Last Resort Recovery Center and The Center For Students in Recovery – UT Austin were excited to announce that Chris Herren would be speaking at The LBJ Library, Wednesday July 17th.So, some of y’all are asking, “Who is Chris Herren?” I first discovered Herren through ESPN’s 30 for 30 documentaries, Unguarded. In this ESPN documentary, Jonathan Hock depicts an incredible story about the success and failures of Chris Herren, a high school basketball All-American. Herren had to handle the spotlight at an early age, and found a way to cope with the pressure through alcohol and drugs. Even being kicked off two college teams, Boston College and Fresno State, did not keep him from being drafted into the NBA. Herren played for the Denver Nuggets and his hometown team, the Boston Celtics, until his addiction took a toll for the worse. While bouncing from team to team, and from country to country, Chris watched his life, his career and his family all disappear right in front of him. After hitting multiple rock bottoms, Chris Herren found a way through treatment and recovery to rebuild his life.Chris Herren’s Free Speaker Event – Wednesday, July 17th from 8:30pm to 9:30pm
